This project was a collaborative development and design effort with Laolao Stationery. FOUNDCITY aims to design city-themed stationery products by recording daily and local clues, using elements such as architecture, food, and scenes of daily life. The first city was Guangzhou.
"We wanted to design exquisite travel souvenirs" was our shared expectation for this project. "Exquisite" sounds abstract, but we tried to make it concrete in every stage of the design process. For example, in selecting design elements, we avoided common impressions of Guangzhou and chose elements closer to the city's characteristics: such as the White Swan Hotel, Guangzhou's first five-star hotel; Dongshan Lake Park, where locals get up early for morning exercise, Tai Chi, and dancing; Nanyuan Restaurant, which still preserves traditional dim sum; and the Yakult Saler, a figure in the old city who, though no longer as popular as before—elements that are less mainstream but undeniably authentic. In choosing product categories, we redesigned each individual category more appropriately; this also included the choice of paper materials—more special, more durable, and with unique paper textures—which we used to express our understanding of "exquisite."
本项目是和姥姥文房具共同合作进行开发设计。FOUNDCITY旨在通过记录日常和本地线索，以建筑、食物、人生活的场景等作为元素进行城市主题的文具产品设计。第一个城市是广州。
“希望设计出精美的旅行纪念品”是这个项目中我们的共同期待。“精美”它听起来非常的抽象，但我们在设计的每一个环节中都尝试把它具像化。例如在设计元素的选取上，我们避开了常见的广州印象，而选取更贴近这座城市特点的元素：例如广州第一个五星级酒店白天鹅宾馆、本地人会早起晨运打太极跳广场舞的东山湖公园、还在保留传统点心的南园酒家、在老城区穿梭却早已不如以往流行的益力多姐姐等不主流但确实很地道的内容。在产品类别的选择上，为每一个单独的品类都进行更合适的重新设计；也包含在纸张材质的选择上，更特别、更耐用、更有独特的纸张肌理等，我们用它们来表达对“精美”的理解。
